Would you like to know what other people are thinking about a post?  Or would you share your thoughts?  The comments section on bearonbusiness is meant to stimulate discussion with readers.

Comments are very important.  One, it let’s me know that readers are out there and paying attention.  I get emails sent directly to me and people bring the blog up in conversations.  But there is nothing better than a posted comment.

Comments also spark ideas for future posts.   This is very helpful to me–as writer’s block is a battle at times.

Also, readers have a lot they can learn from one another.  Comments are a great way to share these thoughts.   Below is a “businesstoolsblog-style” tutorial on how to view and post comments.   Thanks Katie for putting this together.

To read a comment just click on “Comments” at the bottom of the page.

I think the lack of comments recently is due to the subject matter you have been blogging on. EVA and Revenue Under Contract are clearly important and direct business topics but are pretty heavy topics and not items where there is a lot of room for debate (IMHO). The last several weeks appear to have been more of a teaching moment(s) as opposed to topics where there is no clear right or wrong and spark different insights (eg. politics, economy, improving ones skillsets during tough times, being the best place to work :) ) I for one am not about to add much to either of those topics. I find them great pieces of information and enable me to rethink what is important for companies of all types to focus on.

Maybe consider writing on a topic and leave it open ended where you are (genuinely) asking for different perspectives.

Also, on a more serious note, if you wanted to stir the pot a bit and spark some healthy debate you might post something like how the Cardinals will clearly outshine the Cubs (again) this year or how the Packers are a far superior team to the Bears…just a thought.

I’m sorry…didn’t the Cubs win the last two NL Central titles? And did the Packers win more than four games last year? Five perhaps if you included pre-season… I am (genuinely) asking for your perspective on these questions…

    Thanks for the comment.

I don’t know how the Rockies have done against the Cubs this year or if they have even played but I do know that the Rockies just swept 4 games in a row against St. Louis.

Dan – I can assure you as a formerly long-suffering Red Sox fan, miracles do indeed happen. Of course, I think the franchise is cursed until Zell removes the “for sale” listing in Craigslist….

Poor use of the word (genuine) in my response Dan. Sorry about that. I did take your request as genuine. I do think the open ended question may be one of many possible ways to reach out to folks to get responses, feedback, and honest thoughts.

Some folks may be pretty intimidated to respond (to any blog) so guess that is up to each individual to find the fortitude and confidence to respond.

    Good luck.

I actually rather enjoyed reading the most recent blog regarding what have we learned… or rather what have we not. Talking to my grandmother about technology i might as well be speaking in japanese to the women! However, my generation and those that followed are steadily slipping into the mystic realm of internet dependence… which is no wonder as to why their stocks are as you say “dandy.” Upgrades and advancements are a constant in this world. It can almost be frightening to think about the longveity of a particular product or service though, as something newer and better is constantly evolving. I follow the Internet Business Box at http://www.BusinessHQR.com/blog and they just came out with a June update… you can be sure as the day is long another is soon to follow. And yes.. i have learned the benefit of such upgrades but sometimes just keeping up is daunting.

John–I am (genuinely) appreciative of your comments…just like ribbing u a little

Parkite–I saw Sam Zell speak at University of Colorado last month. He is an impressive guy. My guess is the sales process is less distracting for cubs than it would be for a financially struggling small market team.

Elizabeth–thanks for you comment. It is amazing though how popular the Internet is with retirees. It gives them a community that they otherwise wouldn’t have access to. That, combined with Viagra, is changing the golden years. (Though being 45, I must qualify my opinion as speculation only.)
