In late July, Zayo acquired fiber networks and associated competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) operations in five North Central markets. These properties were originally part of KMC and were held by CenturyTel for the past couple of years.
The acquisition adds three new markets to Zayo’s network: Lansing, Mich., Ann Arbor, Mich. and Toledo, Ohio, and substantially expands its fiber footprint in its existing markets of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Akron, Ohio. With this acquisition, Zayo adds 54 on-net locations and 180 route miles to its core fiber network.
These markets fit nicely with Zayo’s other networks. Four of them intersect existing Zayo fiber. We will be interconnecting the networks into one seamless network in August and September. The fiber network and bandwidth customers will become part of Zayo Bandwidth. The CLEC operations will become part of Zayo Managed Services. Most integration work will be completed by the end of 2008.
Congrats to all the Zayo folks who made this acquisition happen. During the closing process, an incredible amount of integration planning work was completed—and we are already in full execution mode. I thank the Onvoy Voice, ZMS, and ZB folks who are working hard and smart on the integration. For those employees and customers who are becoming part of the Zayo family as a result of this acquisition, welcome. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any question or concerns.
Finally, thank you Century Tel for working constructively with us through the closing process.
